Activities and Books

I'm going to list good activities for rainy day and some of our favourite books as we discover them (please add comments of your favourite books and things to do to share with everyone):

Activity Ideas

Sensory box

Ok, so grab a cupboard box decorate with bright wrapping paper, then fill your box... (Just a few ideas to get you going):
  • Baby safe mirrors, stick them in the box - and you have a baby in a
  • Different textured material, scarves etc...
  • Some old toys, they haven't seen in a while, maybe an old book.
  • Bubbles
  • Some stuff from outdoors, stones, shells, pine cones
  • Kitchen utensils - spoon, brush, sieve, pan - lots to feel and make noises with.
  • Be creative - plastic milk cartons can be rattles with a bit of pasta
Play in the Dark

Turn out the lights and play, here are some ideas
  • Shine a torch around
  • Make shadow puppets either with your hands or cut some silhouette out
  • Cover torch with sweet wrappers to make some colour
  • Other glowing things e.g. stars, balls
  • Glow in the dark stars
Then make up some stories, sing some songs or just put on some relaxing music.

O-Ball

It is squidgy so you can squash it and it pops back up (also good for squeezing into the last small space in an oevrflowing bag!), you can throw it, roll it bounce it, hide it, chase it, it is perfect for little fingers to grab hold of and if it hits you or anything else it doesn't cause any damage!  It has provided us with hours of fun :) Costs £5 from amazon, but worth every penny!

Rhino Toys ~ O Ball

Mini Beast Hunting

Riley's crawling which is great :) so basically got her out in the garden and let her crawl around, we searched for mini beasts, didn't find many but we searched anyway.  You can try putting down a white sheet and see what creatures you find land on it...  Riley also enjoyed picking the dandelions as she crawled along, after eating one I think she worked out they didn't taste very nice so picked them rather than eating them.

Washing

Then we hung out the washing, that's a great thing to do together (as long as you don't mind a few of your clothes strewn across the lawn!) Riley loves watching the washing going round and helping take all the clothes out the basket.
